Veteran Insurance Executive, Litigation Strategist & Expert Witness

With more than three decades of hands-on experience in the insurance industry, J. Eric Peterson Jr. stands as a recognized authority in property and casualty insurance, litigation management, and expert testimony. His professional journey is marked by a rare combination of deep field expertise, legal education, and practical litigation support making him one of the most well-rounded and respected consultants in the field of insurance and risk management.

A Career Spanning Every Angle of Insurance

Mr. Peterson’s career began over 32 years ago and has touched nearly every corner of the insurance industry. He has served as a:

• Licensed Commercial Property and Casualty Insurance Broker

• Licensed Insurance Adjuster (resident and non-resident in nearly all 50 states)

• Litigation Manager for wholly owned captive insurance companies

• D&O Litigation Specialist, handling complex Directors and Officers claims

• Claims Handler for two of the country’s leading Third-Party Administrators (TPAs)

His experience encompasses the full spectrum of insurance from frontline claims handling to overseeing defense strategies for high-stakes litigation. He holds a Property and Casualty Insurance Producer License in Arizona, Life and Health Producer Licenses, and multiple non-resident licenses across several states, including Maryland and Pennsylvania. Over his career, he has operated under numerous designations as a broker, agency principal, and adjuster.

A Unique Legal Perspective. Without Practicing Law

At the age of 38, while working full-time and raising four children, Mr. Peterson pursued his legal education. He earned his Juris Doctorate from the Cumberland School of Law at Samford University in 2011, not to become a practicing attorney, but to enhance his effectiveness in managing litigation for captive insurers.

His legal training equips him to operate with a sophisticated understanding of tripartite confidentiality, claims negotiation, and defense coordination, particularly in his role as litigation manager for captive insurance clients. Though he is not a barred attorney, his legal acumen significantly strengthens his role in strategy, confidentiality, and expert-level case evaluation.

Expert Witness & Testimony Work

Since 2019, J. Eric Peterson Jr. has provided testimony as an expert witness in a wide range of cases involving:

• Insurance industry standards and practices

• Bad faith claims

• TPA claims handling errors

• Directors and Officers (D&O) liability

• Unfair claims settlement practices

He has testified at trial and evidentiary hearings and has provided multiple depositions in both state and federal jurisdictions. His testimony is sought after for its clarity, objectivity, and deep grounding in real-world insurance practice.

Insurance Archaeology: Finding the Missing Piece

In addition to his work as an expert witness, Mr. Peterson currently serves as a consultant for Arcina Risk Group, LLC, where he specializes in insurance archaeology. This highly specialized field involves locating and reconstructing historic insurance policies that may be responsive to long-tail liability matters particularly in Child Victims’ Act litigation, environmental torts, and legacy liability defense.

Mr. Peterson’s expertise doesn’t stop at identification; he also provides claims advocacy to help secure defense and indemnity from any responsive insurers located through the insurance archaeology process.
